Inspired by her personal experiences with her brother’s learning disability and her mother’s adept care as a nurse, Elizabeth Castro pursued a career as a special education teacher at the City of Waterbury Schools. She has made a significant contribution to this field and has yielded more than 20 years of expertise. In her daily responsibilities, she assesses the needs of children with learning disabilities and designs programs to assist them in their development. Honored for her diligence, Ms. Castro was the recipient of Teacher of the Year award in 2008 from the City of Waterbury.
Proficient in any environment, she is a part-time entrepreneur and is affiliated with Market America; a product brokerage and Internet marketing company that specializes in one-to-one marketing.
Ms. Castro attributes her success to her passion for her job and is committed to helping children provide a better future for themselves. In the next five years, she hopes to work in the field of clinical social work in psychology. She also aspires to write children's books.
Ms. Castro earned a master's degree in special education from Fairfield University in 1984. She is affiliated with the Connecticut Education Association and the National Education Association
Ms. Castro is ardent volunteer and supporter of St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. In her spare time, she enjoys playing the piano, reading, horseback riding, collecting shells, and learning new languages.
